This week I went to Jharkhand, India with All We Can. The majority of images captured are for 2016’s Inspirational Women Campaign and I will share that campaign with you in a few months time*.

Jharkhand was a place full of juxtapositions and contradictions: Burning black coal gives off spirals of smoke that snake into the night as women in bright pinks and turquoises shuffle by. White cows amble slowly up village roads as lively children poke them with sticks. Ornate looking silver cooking pots being scrubbed with twigs and grit. Brightly painted fingernails adorn hands that are worn with toil.

Here are a few images captured in India while out and about – loved the details and colours of the region and truly hope to return.

The women I met in Kuju had such a warm and generous spirit, the welcomes I received going into their homes was beautiful and very touching.

There is nothing romantic about coal mining, just lots of hard work, sweat and toil.
