Whilst the majority of my work has a humanitarian focus I do take on travel photography assignments that interest me. I live in Sierra Leone and love the country, it is my second home. It has to be one of the most beautiful countries in the world and yet it still suffers from a very poor (and undeserved) reputation. The well-documented civil war ended in 2002 and the country is now safe, peaceful and ready for tourists to return. About 20 minutes drive from my home is one of the most stunning beaches in the country and a year ago The Place hotel opened there to bring Sweet Salone its first luxury hotel. This week I spent a day at The Place finding out more about their ethos and photographing their gorgeous resort. At the core of their vision is the belief that Sierra Leone deserves to be discovered and appreciated and they are working hard with the local community of Tokeh to make sure that this happens in a sensitive way that has only benefits for the local community and environment. Check out The Place for a holiday in a stunning setting that most tourists are yet to find.
