I am currently on assignment in Nicaragua with the Methodist Church of Great Britain and Street Child World Cup. I am sure I will post more from this work at a later date but just wanted to highlight an aspect of the work that I am finding interesting and challenging in equal measure. For good reasons the identity of many of the street children at the project I am focusing on in Nicaragua need to remain hidden. Many of these children have suffered abuse or have difficult, complex relationships with their families. Therefore my challenge has been to find ways I can tell their story without revealing their identities. This work is a joy in many ways because the stories of change coming from the work the Street Child World Cup‘s partner in Nicaragua does is worth celebrating! It is a challenge though too as storytelling without showing faces is not always easy.

In this image I have tried to include the colour, activity and vibrancy of the project working with the street children in Managua, Nicaragua. I also wanted to include a sense of hope – looking out towards a better future….

Hope for a better life. The Street Child World Cup slogan is 'I am somebody'. This 17 year old girl had a real sense of that pride and identity in all she told us.
